The Mayor's Corner PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Zonta Club of
WHEREAS, Ms. Bertini has worked tirelessly to provide famine relief to countless countries through her leadership as Executive Director of the World Food Program; and WHEREAS, Ms. Bertini’s leadership served to highlight the impact women have in the local and world community in the distribution of life sustaining food; and WHEREAS, it is now recognized that women are instrumental in the growth, preparation, storage and delivery of food to their families and communities; and WHEREAS, Ms. Bertini continues to demonstrate the value and necessity of the leadership role women play in both the global and local community, and WHEREAS, Ms. Bertini has received numerous awards for her contributions worldwide, but is still a key leader in her hometown and the greater
WHEREAS, Ms. Bertini was the first woman named to the Cortland Jr./Sr. High School Distinguished Alumni Wall of Fame in recognition of her valued contributions worldwide; and WHEREAS, the
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Thomas Gallagher, Mayor of the City of Cortland, hereby proclaim May 23, 2004 Catherine Bertini Day in the City of Cortland in recognition of her nomination as the Zonta Club of Cortland’s 2004 Woman of Achievement.
