2010-04-24, Clayton Avenue Stabbings
On Saturday afternoon, April 24, 2010, at approximately 5:40 pm, officers from the City of Cortland Police Department responded to Clayton Avenue for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival officers found a crowd of approximately thirty young adults dispersing from the roadway. Investigation at the scene revealed that a fight involving approximately ten people had occurred.
The people involved in the fight have been identified as students from TC3, SUNY Cortland, and other young adults not affiliated with either college. One twenty two year old male SUNY Cortland student was found to have been stabbed. The stabbing victim received multiple stab wounds to his torso. The victim was transported to the CRMC for treatment and later transferred to University Hospital Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for further treatment. The victim is listed in stable condition with internal bleeding.
The investigation is ongoing. It is unknown if this stabbing is related to the recent stabbing on Groton Avenue or robbery on Lincoln Avenue. No arrests have been made. Persons involved in the disturbance as well as witnesses to the disturbance have been identified and interviewed. Detectives with the City of Cortland Police Department are trying to identify additional involved persons, witnesses, or anyone who may have captured the disturbance with photographs and/or video.
