Lieutenant David GuerraraLieutenant Guerrera began his law enforcement career in 1988, as a patrol officer with the Cornell University Police Department, where he attended the Broome County Law Enforcement Academy in 1990. In March of 1993, Lt. Guerrera accepted a position with the Cortland City Police and graduated from the Onondaga County Law Enforcement Academy in 1994. As a patrolman, Lt. Guerrera was active in community policing and became one of the department’s first certified Bicycle Patrol Officers. In May 1999, he was promoted to the rank of Uniform Sergeant, where he oversaw patrol operations, until his assignment to the department’s Youth Division in May 2008. Lt. Guerrera obtained his New York State certification as a Juvenile Officer and continued to receive training in criminal investigations surrounding children. In August 2009, Lt. Guerrera was promoted to oversee the operations of the Detective Bureau, and became the new Public Information Officer for the department. In August 2010, Lt. Guerrara accepted his current position as Uniform Lieutenant, where he oversees the daily operations of the patrol division. Lt. Guerrara is working toward his NYS Fire Investigator Certification.

Lt. Guerrera was a lifelong resident of Elmira, New York, where he graduated from Elmira Southside High School in 1984. He continued his education at Mansfield University in Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a BA in Criminal Justice Administration in 1988. Lt. Guerrera relocated to the Cortland area in 1991. Lt. Guerrera is a member of the Cortland County Multidisciplinary Task Force, the Southern Tier Cyber Predator Task Force, the Zone 6 Counter Terrorism Task Force, and the New York State Juvenile Officer’s Association. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Seven Valley Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse.

Lt. Guerrera lives in Homer with his wife and three children.
