Pet Licensing

The pet owner must make an application in writing to the Common Council of the City of Cortland and the application will be referred to the Animal Committee for investigation and recommendations to the Council. It is helpful if the applicant includes with the license request such things as written consent letters from neighbors and the owner of the property, photographs of caging or structures used to house the animal, and other particulars that will aid the Animal Committee and the Common Council in determining whether or not the issuance of the permit "would substantially impair the appropriate use or development of adjacent property, or would be detrimental to the public welfare."

Correspondence to the Common Council regarding this matter can be made through the Mayor's Office, ATTN: Animal Committee, 25 Court Street Cortland, NY 13045
