2003 Holiday Decorating Contest Announced

The city of Cortland Landscape and Design Commission is proud to announce the fifth annual City of Cortland Festival of Lights Decorating Contest.

Those wishing to participate in the contest can find entry forms at the Cortland Free Library, Mayor’s Office and online (see below). Entry forms must be completed and turned into the Mayor’s Office or Library by Wednesday, December 10, 2003.

Recognition will be given out in four categories including Best Overall appearance, creative use of lighting, creative use of decorations, and theme consistency (i.e. Victorian theme, children’s themes, patriotic themes). No one property can win more than one category.

Judging will be based on the above criteria.

Judging will take place between December 13, 2003 and December 14, 2003. To qualify for judging holiday decorations must be lit between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. during the judging time period. Awards will be given out at the Common Council meeting on December 16, 2003.

If your neighbor’s home is especially festive, please nominate them for consideration. All properties nominated by someone other than the owner will be asked to consent to participation.
