Internships:

The Dragon Planet (http://ezdragon.cortland.edu) is a new international website magazine dedicated to "giving the first global generation its voice in the new media." Updated weekly, this snappy new ezine is written, designed and produced by college and secondary students from around the world.

Though the Dragon Planet's Editorial Office is located in Upstate New York at the State University of Cortland, the magazine has regional desks at colleges and universities in Australia, Egypt, Mali, Mexico, Peru, Slovakia, Romania and Venezuela. To date, the Dragon Planet has run stories on everything from first hand accounts of the war in Kosovo and the Romanian Miner's Strike, to Japanese Cult Rock and Brazilian television.

"Young people want to find out what's happening in a way that's happening. The Dragon Planet tries to give them what they want in the way they want it. Whatever young people are doing and are interested in, we want to cover," Planet Director, Devereaux Kennedy said.

The Dragon Planet hopes to employ new media to give generations X and Y a forum and a voice through which they can redefine "the news" in their own terms, using their own language and style. "The Internet and the World Wide Web is this generation's medium," says Planet web designer, Jason Contento. "We grew up with it and we are comfortable using it."

"This medium has tremendous potential that is only beginning to be tapped. It has multimedia and interactive capability to create a new genre of journalism that combines video, audio graphic and print elements to tell stories and report events," according to the Planet's German reporter Martin Fuenkle.

"We want to employ The Planet to initiate a global dialogue among young people. We want them to report on "what's happening" in their region of the world to a global audience. We want young people to use The Planet to express their views on global events, to discuss and explore the issues that unite and divide them," says Planet Director, Devereaux Kennedy. The Dragon Planet is an exciting new educational opportunity for both its creators and its readers. The Internet gives this generation the opportunity to communicate instantaneously and inexpensively. The Dragon Planet wants to provide a vehicle through which that opportunity can be seized.

Opportunities exist for internships in both the editorial office in Cortland and around the globe. For more information, please contact:
