Adopt-a-Hydrant Program

The Water Department has an Adopt-a-Hydrant Program within the City of Cortland. Interested parties or groups can adopt a fire hydrant or several hydrants around the City. Paint, wire brushes and paint brushes to keep the fire hydrant bright and fresh are available through the program. The hydrant does require a little TLC - Guardians agree to be responsible for its care by keeping the area surrounding the hydrant mowed and free from weeds during the summer and shoveled clear in the winter. Hydrants can be named and come with an adoption certificate.

Adoption applications are available at City Hall, 25 Court Street. For more information or questions about the program, call 607-753-3061.
