  3. A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls

May 24, 2018, 2:15 PM - 4:15 PM @ Homer Senior Center, Homer Town Hall, Lower Level

Don't cut back on a favorite activity or turn down a chance to go out with family or friends because you are concerned about falling. "A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns about Falls" can help older adults improve their quality of life and remain more independent. Fear of falling can be as dangerous as falling. Limiting activities can result in physical weakness, making the risk of falling even greater. Many older adults also experience isolation or depression when they limit their interactions with family and friends. "A Matter of Balance" is an evidence-based program designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults. Participants learn to set realistic goals to increase activity, change their environment to reduce fall risk factors, and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance. This class series will be held on Thursday for eight weeks from May 3 through June 21 from 2:15 - 4:15.
